How to Streamline RNA-Seq analysis and increase productivity—point, click, and done
Attributes are used to describe your samples. Examples of sample attributes include treatment group, age, sex, and time point. Attributes can be added manually or using a tab-delimited text file with samples on rows and attributes on columns where the first column contains the sample IDs. In this tutorial, we will add one attribute, Treatment, manually.
- Select the Data tab
- Select Manage attributes (Figure 1)
- Select Add new attribute (Figure 2)
- Set Treatment as Name
- Select Categorical as Attribute type
- Select Project-specific for Visibility
- Select Add (Figure 3)
- Name the first New category 0uM
- Select Add
- Name the second New category 5uM
- Select Add
- Name the third New category 10uM
- Select Add
- Select Close to finish creating the attribute (Figure 4)
- Select Back to sample management table
The data table now includes an Attribute column for Treatment (Figure 5). Next, we need to assign samples attribute categories for Treatment.
- Select Edit attributes
The option to edit the Treatment field for each sample will appear as a drop-down menu (Figure 6).
- Select the Treatment text box for a sample to bring up a drop-down menu with the Treatment attribute categories (0uM, 5uM, 10uM)
- Use the drop-down menus to add a treatment group for each sample
The first three samples (SRR592573-5) should be 0uM, the next three samples (SRR592576-8) should be 5uM, and the final three samples (SRR592579-81) should be 10uM (Figure 7).
The data table will now show each a Treatment attribute for each sample.
